Training Report
On November 27th and 28th, I participated in the Webiner (Humanitarian Congress Tokyo 2020) held by Doctors Without Borders, which I continue to register.
「The number of refugees and internally displaced persons has been increasing in decades, and conflicts became more protracted than ever. The impact of climate change and widespread epidemics such as Ebola or COVID-19, among other factors, have diversified the forms and areas of humanitarian aid and increased the need for funds and staffing. In addition, the rise of nationalism, counter-terrorism policies, and the stagnation of refugee acceptance with the closure of national borders have made it even more challenging in recent years to provide humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable. The “Humanitarian Congress Tokyo” strives to contribute to the discussion in Japan about the challenges for humanitarianism and humanitarian aid, which is carried out based on the principles of independence, neutrality and impartiality.」
In order to participate in the activities of Doctors Without Borders, it is necessary to match the experience and skills required for each mission, the timing of offer, etc., and it is difficult to have them, so I have not been able to participate recently. Therefore, by participating in this Webiner, it was an opportunity to reflect on myself, who tends to be overwhelmed by daily life and narrow my horizons. We cannot choose the environment in which we are born. I reaffirmed my desire to think about what I can do without considering the harsh environment that is occurring in a land far from Japan and being forced to live in evacuation as another person's affairs.
Unfortunately, crimes such as sex crimes, substance use, and domestic violence actually occur even in the harsh environment of distant countries. Believing that it is one of the things I can do now to provide appropriate support to sex offenders, people with problems such as substance use and domestic violence, etc. who come to our office for psychotherapy, I hope to get closer to a world where there are no perpetrators or victims, and I would like to attend the session again today.
